"Rainy Blue," introduced in 2012, is a climbing rose variety originating from Germany. The flowers of Rainy Blue are light purple, relatively small at only 6 cm in diameter, with double petals and a subtle fragrance. This rose blooms continuously throughout multiple seasons, producing a large number of flowers, and is characterized by its prolific blooming and small leaves. The flowers of Rainy Blue are not particularly vibrant or eye-catching but exude an elegant charm with a delicate fragrance. Although its shade tolerance is average, it is best grown in a sunny environment.
Rainy Blue inherits the purple genes and double petals from "Old Port" and the vigorous growth from "Libertas." It is worth noting that, as of now, there are no true blue roses in existence. Most varieties on the market with "blue" in their names are typically purple or light purple. Even Japanese breeders, who are passionate about cultivating blue roses, have yet to overcome this challenge.
Rainy Blue plants typically reach a height of 1-1.5 meters, and with proper care, they can grow up to 3 meters. The light purple flowers gradually turn white as they bloom, and each blossom has about 50 petals, with a flower diameter of approximately 7 cm.
Rainy Blue blooms throughout all seasons, with each branch bearing over ten flowers during peak blooming periods, giving an elegant appearance. It is recommended to promptly prune spent flowers after each blooming cycle to promote further flowering.
